![]() ![]() ![]() I have to be on time so the game can go on. There's a clock related to me with this new show I’m doing. I'm working on being on time, now, in my life as an adult. I joined the TV club my sophomore year, and the funny part of the story is I had this really strict home room teacher who’d give you detention every time you were late. I talked at an alumni event not that long ago. Is that where your love of TV and radio developed?Ĭostabile: I think so. The story continues after the Instagram post. At the end of the day, it's like being in the playground playing with your friends, but it's on a bigger scale on the TV. Plus, you just can’t beat the excitement of a kid winning a prize on TV, and accomplishing that with their parents and their family. That’s also what makes every episode different, because every family and their dynamic and their energy is so different. It's the best energy ever, and that's what the show's a lot about.having fun. And there's this energy, because it’s families doing it, that you just can't mimic. It's nail-biting fun because of the challenges. On the set, I'm just like the audience, watching this unfold in real time, rooting for these kids and their relatives to win. They’re designed to be difficult and to be done within a time period, so that’s the challenge. What's great is these games are designed to be fun and crazy to watch. That's in line with who I am as a person. Sometimes, it's kids versus kids, or cousins, and it's all about celebrating family, and having fun together. It's kids and their parents, kids and their grandparents. So, what can fans expect to see with your version of the show?Ĭostabile: We actually have some original games from the '50s version, but the difference with this is it is all family-related. ![]() There have been numerous iterations of Beat the Clock, dating back to the '50s. I got the gig, and we literally started shooting the show, five or six days later. I flew out to L.A., and I'll never forget that my agent, Julia Bodner, said, ‘Pack like you're gonna get it, because if you get it they're rehearsing, and you're shooting in a week.’ I packed the biggest suitcase ever, and was very fortunate that it all worked out. Then, there was a whirlwind where I finally found out within a 24-hour window that they wanted to see me. A lot of great people pushed my information and my stuff to the production team there. We're submitting you, and trying to get you in there.’ It was in L.A. I got a call, and my agent said, ‘Hey, they may be pretty interested. It was very late in the process for them making the show. How did Beat the Clock happen for you?Ĭostabile: They were looking for a host for a really long time. The Record caught up with Costabile via phone from his Manhattan apartment to talk about all of the above. And starting today, Costabile will kick off a stint as the host of a brand-new, family-oriented spin on the classic game show, Beat the Clock. 17, they welcomed their first child, Carmella Stanley Costabile, into the world. This past December, the Hillsdale native married his longtime girlfriend, singer Christina Perri, and on Jan. ![]()
